Digiscoping
1st June 2006, ThursdayDuring the recent Wildlife Weekend, I attended the session on digiscoping at Rye Harbour - mainly to find out if my Optolyth telescope and Canon digital camera could work together - and was astounded by my very first results! Thanks to Barry, I have avoided the need to invest in expensive and cumbersome adaptors, instead using a small piece of entomological material called plastozote, which is simply cut to size and rolled to form a short tube. This acts as a spacer that fits snugly into the eyepiece of the telescope and centres the camera lens perfectly!Â

A few adjustments to the camera settings and a steady hand were then all that was needed to capture this distant Redshank from the hide at the wader pool on a gloomy day. At last I have entered the digiscoping age!Â
