Both Swifts and House Martins returned to Winchelsea over the weekend and a pair of the latter had returned to their nest under our eaves today.
An ugly scene was brewing this evening on the roadside pool at Pett, where two pairs of Great Crested Grebes were finding the place too small for the both of them. In fact, as I was leaving, a fifth bird was emerging from the back. At least a dozen remain on the sea, along with 2 imm m Eiders, and an Egyptian Goose flew past. This morning. a large cloud of scoters, maybe even more than the 500 recently reported, was in flight at the Rye end.
3 Cetti’s Warblers are singing between Toot Rock and Carter’s Flood, and another one near Winchelsea. where there appear to be 7 Heron’s nests in the rookery.
A f Marsh Harrier was soaring over the Pannel Valley yesterday evening and Winchelsea this morning.
