RSPB Dungeness

Not a lot to report this week. The moulting male Scaup has been present on Denge Marsh throughout the week. A small number of passage waders have been recorded on Denge Marsh, including up to 4 Wood Sandpipers, Green and Common Sandpipers and single Greenshank. A single Curlew Sandpiper and 3 Garganey were on Denge Marsh on 8th and a single Garganey there on 11th. The 2 Black-necked Grebes that were on ARC pit have not been reported since 6th. Raptors have been in evidence, 2 Marsh Harriers, Hobby and Peregrine have been seen regularly.
A White Stork appears to be moving around the Walland , Romney Marsh and Dungeness area. One was reported on 11th as being near Tenterden Garden Centre and a large bird fitting the size and shape of a stork was phoned in to us today, 12th.

Dungeness Bird Observatory

Large numbers of birds feeding offshore included a Balearic Shearwater, about 20 Arctic Skuas, a Great Skua and about 300 Sandwich Terns.
Overhead, at least 500 Sand Martins passed through and there were 27 Willow Warblers and a Garden Warbler in the bushes. There was also a Kingfisher at the Long Pits.

Good selection of Waders this morning on Flat Beach Quarry and Wader pool:19 Knot,2 Little Stint,45 Dunlin,4 Grey Plover,27 Turnstone,3 Whimbrel, 26 Ringed Plover,4 Snipe,6 Redshank and 2 Greeenshank
Waders along the shore included:20 Sanderling,31 Curlew and 3 Bar Tailed Godwit
At Castle Water: 4 Little Ringed Plover,2 Black Tailed Godwit,5 Green Sandpiper, 7 Common Sandpiper and 16 Snipe
Little Ringed Plover at Castle Water
Yesterday 45 Little Egret and 230+ Yellow Wagtail roosted at Castle Water
