Dungeness Bird Observatory

Very little change on the land with a Green Sandpiper, a Lesser Whitethroat and six Willow Warblers being the only obvious migrants.
There was also very little at sea until late afternoon when a very large feeding flock of birds arrived offshore including at least 300 Gannets, 400 Sandwich and 350 Common Terns and more unusual birds in the form of three Manx Shearwaters, a Balearic Shearwater and six Arctic Skuas.

Moth & butterflies at Bulverhythe

Yesterday I found the oak eggar moth below sitting on a small triangle of grass at the very busy road junction where Harley Chute Road joins Bexhill Road in Bulverhythe.

There were also a clouded yellow butterfly and a painted lady here, so may be there has been a fall of migrants from mainland Europe.

Pannel Valley

Migrant numbers have been building up gradually in the valley with over 25 Willow Warblers present today, whilst Garden Warblers and Grasshopper Warblers continue to trickle through in small numbers. Three Nightingales were recorded over recent days and small numbers of Green Sandpiper, Dunlin and Common Sandpiper are present.
